A flexible armrest for surgeons, developed by Demcon, Ergo-Design and Indes, reduces tiredness of neck and shoulder muscles during long lasting operations.
The arm support was introduced at the Surgeons' Congress in Munich, and thereafter extensively tested in real-life situations. These tests demonstrate that by using this tool it is possible to operate for a long period of time with great accuracy. Measurements on surgeons indicate much strain is removed from the neck and shoulder muscles.The combination of flexibility and a sound construction makes the patented arm support unique. It has a long reach. It is able to supports both arms and even renders them weightless. At the same time, it gives sufficient support. A pedal adjusts the support system. Once the desired position has been reached, the pedal is released and the arm support is fixed in position. The system can be placed near the surgeon's chair.
